Total Situational Awareness

Understanding

Hearing your electronic communications with positional information built in so you know where the information is coming from (localization)
Hearing your surrounding environment as well (or better) than with your naked ears while being protected from loud noise and monitoring your electronic communications (transparent hearing)

Heads Up

Listening to navigational aids and warnings as you keep your eyes up and your perspective on your surroundings (auralization)
Using your ears to their fullest natural potential – to monitor your surroundings as well as your electronic communications, and to guide your eyes to potential danger (awareness)

The proliferation of GPS equipped persons and positions, the advent of low-cost head-tracking sensors, and the availability of networked digital information transmission allows the warfighter to be better connected, better informed, and more situationally aware than ever before. Now you can communicate with your teammates as if they were in whispering distance, and know where they are with the sound of their voice. Now you can hear your waypoints and your warnings and guide yourself to / through them without consulting a digital map or taking your eyes off the situation.
