Conference Equipment - Communication Systems - Modulators

General Description
Each of these one-rack-space-high modulators can handle up to five narrowband channels and has the capability of being daisy-chained with additional SI29-5s to configure systems of up to 32 channels. Using Phase Locked Loop frequency synthesis, the five channels can be programmed to transmit on any of the 32 available frequencies. If systems of less than five channels are required, non-active channels can be turned off, resulting in increased transmission range from SZI 1029 or SZI 1015 emitter panels. The SI 29-5 requires an NT 29-120 AC power supply.

Glossary
AF sensitivity
Specification used for judging the quality of acoustic transducers. A given sound pressure level will generate a certain voltage and vice versa.
Deviation display
Display for monitoring the deviation.
Modulation
The process in which one wave is varied by some parameter of another wave, for example, an RF carrier frequency that is modulated by an audio signal. Types of modulation include amplitude modulation, frequency modulation, pulse code modulation and pulse width modulation.
Nominal deviation
Also known as reference deviation. The nominal deviation has been fixed at 40kHz to be able to give comparable technical data.
Number of channels
Frequencies which are available to transmit a signal.
Output impedance
Gives the internal impedance of an a.c. source. If the input of a subsequent load has the same input impedance, we speak of a matched impedance. The maximum power is delivered to the load.
Peak deviation
Maximum permissible deviation for FM.
Power supply
Description of the power source used for powering a unit, for example mains, battery, rechargeable accupack, etc.
RF output
Socket for feeding the transmitter signal to the antenna (system). Rack-mount transmitters most commonly feature a BNC type connector; for bodypack transmitters, various types of connectors are used.
Suppression of harmonics
Gives the level of attenuation of unwanted spurious emission.
XLR connector
Most common form of connector in audio studio technology.
